SPRING DOS

Spring marks the beginning of Kapha season. Kapha is the water bioenergy that when increased makes us feel heavy, dull and lethargic. During Spring, excess Kapha in the body is responsible for allergies and Spring colds. As the snow starts melting and flowers prepare to blossom, the water element increases inside our body too. This is why balancing the water element is more important than ever to avoid colds, congestion and allergies. Here are a few tips that can help with that.

  • Reduce consumption of water and if thirsty drink warm water previously boiled.

  • Avoid any cold foods or drinks.

  • Add spices like black pepper, ginger, turmeric and cardamom to your food.

  • Avoid cheese and dense foods.

  • Practice the Varuna mudra.

The Varuṇa mudrā is intended to balance and work with the water element inside the body, and to be practiced in Spring. You should practice it every day for at least 5 minutes sitting in thunderbolt pose and with your eyes closed preferably between 6am and 10am.
