Ayurveda and True Health

When was the last time you gave yourself the gift of health? And what is your definition of health?

Modern medicine defines health as the absence of disease. But is that enough to make us feel vibrant or is there something else we long for? The beautiful science of Ayurveda affords us a more comprehensive view and defines health as that state when all physiological functions, mind and spirit are in balance therefore creating equanimity. This state of health is achieved when body, mind and spirit are equally gratified. In other words, health is not limited to how we feel, but rather refers to our level of function and performance as a whole individual. This is the state of Swasthya which literally means well established in oneself. This state can only be attained when we give ourselves the gift of true health. This is when we become rooted in ourselves and no longer chase any cravings or desires as we feel complete as we are. This is the state of being in which body, mind, soul and senses are in blissful equilibrium. Cultivating Swastha(higher state of health) makes us valuable not only to ourselves, but our family, the community and the planet. Ayurveda enables us to reach the state of Swasthya through right living, healthy lifestyle and daily self care.
